Abandoned: Old ATSF "corn Belt", using line from Bay City, Eagle Lake, Sealy.

Connects: UP line to Corpus Christi, Future KCS line to Victoria, UP "Sunset Route", and UP line to LaGrange at Sealy.

In use Now: BNSF line from Sealy to Smithville. Needs to be Two Main Tracks.

Smithville to Beaumont: Ex-ATSF trackage now a shortline.

Connects: UP lines to DFW, (ex SP and MoPac), BNSF (ex BN), UP line to Palestine at Conroe, UP line to Lufkin at Liveston.

East of Livingston, I am not sure of the route and connections to Beaumont.

To me, it would be cheaper to upgrade what we have, than build new. Then this could be used to funnel traffic down the Hardy and grade separated "Sunset" corridors. ("Sunset: ex SP line Houston-Richmond-Dayton. I am refering to the Eagle Lake-Houston-Richmond section)

Interesting. Why they'd want to shoot themselves in the foot like that is beyond me. Hopefully, Clear Lake will be more hospitable.

As for next month's chat topic... The simple answer is to bring back the old 101 route before it became the 88 Hobby Limited, with a few adjustments. Offer absolutely no local stops, this is a P&R-style route. Charge $3.00.

I also think that if the purpose of this is solely to go between airports, there's no need to go downtown. If people who are downtown need to go to either, we already have the 102 and the 88.

Also, don't you all think 88 - Hobby Airport VIA HOBBY AIRPORT is a little redundant? Change that sign guys, but not before I can get a picture of it.

Both went to Bush IAH, but only the 102 went to Gunpoint--I mean, Greenspoint. The 101 went another way and I don't think it went to Terminal C either, but I don't remember.

And no wonder it took 3 hours. The 88 portion of the route alone is almost 90 minutes.

And for J.... I purposely skipped downtown because it will only slow down the Express-ness of the route. I also feel like it defeats the purpose of being an Airport-to-Airport shuttle-type service. Anytime a bus has to go through downtown, it automatically adds 10-15 minutes to the commute. Also, in the long run, it will probably steal from ridership of the 102, 50, 88, and to an extent the 73(which should be how people from the Medical Center get to Hobby).

Speaking of those routes, why is it that there's only one bus to Bush and THREE to Hobby? Even when the 101 was still around it was two to Bush and four to Hobby because of the 41 Gulf Meadows Circulator.

Do you remember a route number known as the 112? I forgot the name of the route but it WAS a route number like that and it DID take you from downtown directly to Bush Airport. Maybe METRO can come up with a route like that for both Bush and Hobby Airports---with just one route, of course---with one exception that I'll say later.

Here's how I think the route should go:

A northbound bus would start service in downtown (somewhere), go directly to Bush, turn around and come back to and go through downtown and then go straight to Hobby. Turn around and the process continues again.

A southbound bus would start service in downtown (somewhere), go directly to Hobby, turn around and come back to and go through downtown and then go straight to Bush. Turn around and the process continues again.

The exception? You do NOT want to skip downtown because there may people there who may want to ride this bus. Maybe METRO can put just a few stops around there so it won't look like it's taking too long for the bus load/unload and to eventually leave the downtown area.

Also, when people come from either of the airports, they can get off in downtown and connect to another bus/METRORail in order to get to whatever they need to go.

That may sound complicated but IMO, I think it'll work---in some way or another. F.Y.I., this does NOT mean getting rid of the buses that to go Hobby (50, 73, 88) and the 102 that goes to Bush.

My take on the airports deal.
