Now when you want to find a bus schedule or plan your next trip on METRO, take out your smart phone and type: www.ridemetro.org in your browser.
Our new easy-to-use mobile site will pop up. The first page features the Trip Planner to help you get where you want to go. The slimmed-down website offers the links our customers want most at the top bar: Rider Tools and Fares. There’s a third tab, “More,” that leads you to more pages on topics such as detours, the RideStore, and HOV/HOT lanes.
Also on the home page are links to Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, the METRO blog, The METRO T.R.I.P. app, streaming board video and Go METRORail, which offers details about the three new light-rail lines we are building.
The T.R.I.P. app retrieves schedule info, predicts the arrival time of our buses and helps you plan your trip. It can pinpoint your location and point you to the nearest bus routes and rail lines. I used it the other day and walked up to a nearby bus stop just as the bus pulled up.
Our mobile website took about eight months to develop. “It took many hours of testing and re-testing from home, at work, asking other folks to look at their phones. We tested on different types of phones – Androids, iPhones, Windows,” said Jesse Quintanilla, METRO web designer.
“There’s been an increase in the mobile usage of the current ridemetro.org website, and we also conducted surveys and a lot of people wanted a mobile version of the site,” added Quintanilla. “I’m hoping more people will use the mobile site on smart phones now. “
