More Commuters Boarding Bikes
Thursday, August 09, 2012 2:42 PM

Bike on METRO bike rack in front of busMore riders are using bi-modal transit to get around town.

In July, we had 14,714 bikes on buses, up 32 percent from a year ago and up 11.3 percent from the previous month.

The top routes with the most boardings were Route 56 Airline Limited with 701 boardings, followed by Route 50 Heights/Harrisburg with 683 boardings.

Since we launched the bikes-on-buses program in April 2007, we have had 418,340 bike boardings. All of our local buses have bike racks that accommodate two bikes, and our Park & Ride buses have luggage space for bikes in the belly of the bus.

If you're an avid biker, you might be interested in participating in Houston Tomorrow's "Biking & Walking Count." The nonprofit research institute is looking for volunteers to conduct a 13-county survey for the Houston Coalition for Complete Streets to assess the walking and biking habits of Houstonians.
