Need a Job? Watch METRO Matters TV Show
Thursday, November 12, 2009 5:12 PM

METRO MattersWith the unemployment rate climbing to 10.2 percent, you or someone you know may be looking for a job.

METRO has openings for part-time bus operators. If you're a people person, we'll train you and help you get your commercial driver's license.  Never driven anything bigger than a compact car? No worries. We have simulators and hours of training. By the time you're behind the wheel of one of our buses, you'll be a confident and safe driver.

Watch METRO Matters and hear Irene Mingle of our human resources department give you the nuts and bolts of becoming a METRO bus operator.

If you want to apply, please go on-line and click here. If you have a friend who is interested but doesn't have Internet access or isn't computer savvy, drop by our building at 1900 Main St. and tell the security guard you're here to apply for a bus operator position.

You'll be directed to a second-floor office where you can use a computer to apply - and a friendly staff person will give you any needed help.

Click here to watch METRO Matters. Or catch the show on a big screen at home on Comcast's Channel 17, Houston Media Source.

What Metro needs is some train operators or at least give the ones they have some training. All they seem to know is full speed  ahead and make as much noise as possible.

Theres a reason why METRO cant seem to ever keep drivers. Even at the starting pay of $15 / hour you think people would hang around.

Metro wants drivers to stick to 20 year old time tables that has yet to be adjusted for the growth. At the same time Metro will preach safety but expect drivers to drive like the Indy.

I am  METRO operator  and if you make 15.00plus and your insurance is $180.00 a week!!!  you do the math welfare and medicaid is more feasible!!!!!!  esp. if you have 1 or 2 dependents.  After a 40hr work week...deductions and trying to save a bit for retirement because our pension plan stinks so...ummm about $400.00 and by the way i am a veteran operator, i.e. TOP-PAID!!!!!!!

This is Why we can't keep operators!!  One reason there are several, how much time and characters do I have?
