Remodeling RideStore into One-Stop Shop
Wednesday, September 02, 2009 4:29 PM

Graphic "Under construction"If you visit our RideStore this month, you'll see construction and remodeling going on.

Today, we started redesigning our RideStore so we can consolidate three functions in one: the RideStore, Treasury and METROLift.

"The build-out is to better assist our customers. We're putting all our service in one place. It's a one-stop shop," said Danicel Whitaker, METRO's deputy director of revenue.

Treasury will now be known as Revenue Operations.

Business will be conducted as usual at the current locations (Revenue Operations on the second floor) during construction.
Hours at the RideStore and Revenue Operations (Treasury) will remain the same during construction:

RideStore 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Revenue Operations (Treasury) 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Once construction is completed, if you want to get a METRO Q® Fare Card or obtain a discounted Q Card (seniors, students and the disabled), you only need to come to one place - the RideStore.

The new RideStore will be the place to go if your Q Card is lost or stolen. If you had a registered Q Card, you'll be able to replace your Q Card, and we'll reload your balance.

And if you need METROLift services - for a discounted Q Card with a photo or for the interview process - you will only need to go to the remodeled RideStore.

The window for Revenue Operations will be along the wall where the brochures have been located. During construction, the schedules will be behind the counter by the RideStore staff, who will be happy to give you one upon request. Later, the schedules will be out in the open again.

We expect to complete the remodeling by Oct. 1. The newly consolidated RideStore will operate Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This sounds good, i guess. I have experienced many long waits at the ride store. Hopefully this will cut down on long wait timed for service. However, I have noticed that the hours changed to 8-5 (open half hour late, close half hour early)!

Yeah, about those hours. People who work normal hours are supposed to visit...how?

The Travis RS still has the timetables out in the open!

Also, having Revenue on the first floor will get it out of a secure area of the HQ.

Our stand-alone, rotating brochure rack came in sooner than expected yesterday afternoon, so we have placed all schedules on that rack. You won't need to ask a RideStore employee for a schedule now.

The Travis location is a Lost & Found facility now and stocks bus schedules. You can also reload a Q Card there with an automated machine. We only have one RideStore located at 1900 Main St. where all Q Card services can be addressed.

JamesL,

The RideStore conducted a survey on its peak hours of business and found that most people come in between  11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Fair enough. I'm glad some thought did go into it.

"one-stop shop" my #$$... I guess METROs hierarchy is sick of seeing the lowly peasants that pay them going up to the second floor. I bet my loaded Qcard that METRO will lock those doors leading to that area.

Any who, I would like to see the Ridestore have better hours along with this great remodeling. 11a - 3p is when the people who don't work and collect benefits wake up, so naturally that will be the busy period. Even the ding dongs at HCTRA have enough sense to have 7:30a - 5:30p m-f business hours and open on Saturday for the EZ Tag customers. METRO needs to wake up and realize the same for its Qcard customers.

And before I see a quote about "budget"... How much is METRO paying to have a "lost and found" in that building on Travis? What a waste.

Ride Store? Like Metro, Houston is also a piece of crap. A big loop and A couple of oil stores and that's houston. 1,200 red, white and blue buses and poor service that happens to make money. That's metro. Welfare for big corps like these. Always wanting a F***ing handout. I want BIG GOVERMENT!!! I want american TYRANNY!!! I WANT OBAMA TO BE THE KING OF THE U.S.!!! I want Tracy McGrady to play a full season!!!

I WANT THE TWO DOLLAR DAY PASS BACK!!!!!

HH, I will have to agree on at least one thing-Metro does need a day pass, not necesarily $2 but something reasonable for visitors to the city. As far as the rest of your gripes I suggest you relocate out of town.
