Next Stop: Terra Cotta Warriors
Tuesday, June 30, 2009 3:48 PM

Terra cotta archerRide the rail to visit one of the nation's top five "must see" museum exhibits, as rated by Time magazine.

It's the Houston Museum of Natural Science exhibit, Terra Cotta Warriors: Guardians of China's First Emperor.

Often considered one of the eight wonders of the world, these life-sized terra cotta replicas were built to protect China's first emperor throughout eternity.

Qin Shi Huang was only 13 years old when he commissioned the army of 8,000 soldiers, built to stand guard over him in a vast necropolis. This exhibit of 14 life-sized soldiers is the biggest display of warriors and tomb artifacts to travel to the United States.

METRO has teamed up with the Houston Museum of Natural Science to offer a $10 discount off an adult ticket. Brochures with a coupon will be distributed on buses, trains and our RideStore in the next few weeks.

The exhibit is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and continues until Oct. 18.

This is great. I was going to take a family friend abord METRO to this exhibit. That way, I could introduce her to METRO and be able to arrive at the museum hassle-free.

As a bonus, the $10 discount admission to the museum will really help with our budget!

Those $10.00 coupons should ave been on the system TODAY.  Went to HMNS today. $28.00 seems a little steep.  Went to see butterflies instead.  (With overcast, it was great.)

On second thought, why just show a Q or Rail Ticket.  Works at the zoo!

I wish METRO had coupons for the Genghis Khan and Body Worlds exhibitions.

The butterfly exhibit gets hot in the summer, trust me!

I guess coupons would be better just in case you have a really unexperienced ticket agent at the museum who can't tell the difference from a Q CARD from a VISA Debit Card! At least a coupon will explain exactly how to give the discount.

Well simply showing a Q card or Rail Ticket would save METRO money.

Tuesday, it was overcast.  At the upper levels, it was hot, but the base level it was great.  With the upgrades of the butterflies, seems the AC got beefed up at the lower level!

With a Q card, at least you have to speend some money on METRO to get it.  With a cupon, one could just walk into a Ride Store, pick one up, and DRIVE to it.  Defeats the purpose of the concept.....
