Web Chat at Noon Today
Tuesday, August 26, 2008 9:29 AM

Web chat logoToday, John Sedlak, executive vice president and our No. 2 guy, will host our August Web chat.

The topic is new METRO services and regional transportation.

Here's your chance to ask your questions of one of METRO's top experts - from noon to 1 p.m. If you can't stay during your entire lunch hour, post a question now and pre-submit it - or drop in, ask a question and then grab a bite or run your errands.

We'll post the transcript later today after the chat.

You already have mine via e-mail but I'll post it here, too.

Question:  When will this service officially open for business?  I ask because I really want to see the bus in person.

Question:  The new Metro's proposal for commuting rail to Fort Bend county is quite different from the original HGAC's proposal.  The different is the use of the share of use on the rail line on US-90.  Please comment.

It has been since Tuesday the 19th of August and all I have gotten is short sharp answers, talked over when I tried to ask questions or I don’t care attitude.  I asked to speak to a manager two days ago and instead of “How could I help you?” I got a very sharp “What do you need to speak with a manager about!?”  I have much more I would like to talk with someone about, but I will leave it at that for now.

I cut off the first part of my message.

Here's the whole of it.

Will there be some kind of shuttle coming back to the downtown area?  People with disabilities like mine sometimes have a hard time walking that three or four blocks.  Speaking of I was recently diagnosed with a permanent disability as of Tuesday the 19th.  I have the blue placard and my apartment complex has painted a handicap parking space, but Metro is the only place I can’t get a response from.  I have been up there 2 times with paperwork and my doctor has faxed letters 3 times to 713-652-8910 and 713-739-4865.

Well, that was interesting.  In some ways I feel like my intelligence was insulted.  He responded to the questions but never addressed any of the concerns therein.  This was in stark contrast to the chat with Mr. Pennington who seemed eager to answer questions about the rail lines.  I guess when you have funding flowing in for your projects you actually have something to talk about besides vague time tables and meticulously planned sound bites.

Over the past 5 years I have talked to Metro via phone and visited the offices a few times.  I don't know who does the customer service training but it is the best I've ever seen and I've been in sales for almost 40 years. In almost 5 years of ridership I only have had 1 unfriendly driver. I am surprised you were treated so harsh. You may hit someone on a bad day.
