Thursday, May 29, 2008 4:28 PM

WEb chat logo of black doorOur next monthly Web chat will be hosted by Chief Tom Lambert next Tuesday, June 3.

The chat, from noon to 1 p.m., will be open to any questions on safety and security in our METRO system or anything over which the METRO Police Department has jurisdiction.

Lambert, who has been police chief since the creation of MPD in 1982, has won industry awards recognizing him for national leadership and honoring METRO for its work in emergency preparedness.  Chief Tom Lambert

Some of the programs MPD has launched: cameras at our Park & Ride lots with remote-controlled access gates; pepper gel for bus operators; the bus marshal program where officers ride the bus in plain clothes. MPD is also responsible for enforcing the HOV lanes.

Got a question? Join us next Tuesday and ask the chief directly.

Mary,

May we submit questions to you prior to the chat?

Why is it not feasible to have someone riding giving tickets out on the light rail everyday? I think three or four tickets would pay for the officers salary and then some.

Yes, you may submit questions prior to the chat on this blog in the comment section! Please do - we'd love to hear from you.

For those who plan on joining us tomorrow, if you can't stay the whole hour, drop in and ask a question. Even if you have to leave before we get to your question, we'll do our best to answer it during the chat.

Chief,

Is METRO ready to meet the demand for parking at many of the Park and Ride lots throughout the city? It's my understanding that some lots are at or near capacity, therefore, will it pose a problem when gas hits 5 dollars and more people choose mass transit as their alternative transportation choice.

Chief Lambert,

Do you believe it is a really good idea to have your officers checking fares in plain clothes? Isn't this a safety concern for the public? If I am on my cell phone and minding my own business and some guys walk up to me demanding my Qcard the last thing I am looking for is a badge on a necklace. After reading the chronicle, maybe uniformed officers or hire uniformed ticket checkers for that job. The undercover cops needs to be arresting the wierdos who are always on there.

Chief Lambert,

Are there any plans to increase the number of double-trains during peak travel times?  There are days when there is barely room to stand, and sometimes tempers really start to flare with all of the pushing and shoving, particularly when trying to get off the train with a mass of people pushing their way in.
